Biotopo de Arguineguin

Immersion in the Aeguineguin Biotope

In front of the beach of “Montaña Arena”, at a depth of 23 m and on a sandy bottom, there are several tens of structures built in concrete, forming the artificial reef or biotope. It has 4 models that, grouped together, favor the proliferation of different species. The creation of this artificial reef was carried out in 1991 by the Government of the Canary Islands, under the follow-up by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Among the large amount of marine life, the huge bank of snorers surprises. It is not easy to resist the temptation to pierce the thick curtain of fish, again and again. In the sandbox, between the different modules, we can observe the shy garden eels. In addition, if we carefully track the footprints, we will see angels, tablecloths and electrifying shakers. We will not be able to leave the place without investigating each of the different modules, where we will find everything from brunettes and alfonsitos, to octopuses and goats. At the end, we can take advantage of the ascent to see the big bugs face to face.
